Comus/Rameses III/Simon Finn limited edition 7"

Comus/Rameses III/Simon Finn 7"Three of my favourite ever artists are featured on this 3 track vinyl EP. It was initially expected to be on sale at the two C93 shows in London at the end of May 2010, but technical problems delayed its appearance then and there. It is now available from those artists. I am not sure of the price and quantities remaining with each artist. To get it from Comus contact them at www.comusmusic.co.uk or www.myspace.com/comusuk; to get it from Rameses III contact them at  and to get it from Simon Finn contact him at www.simonfinn.co.uk. A couple of reviews follow.

“To commemorate the recent 25th anniversary Current 93 performances in London, a super limited number of these commemorative 7"s were pressed up (only 300 copies!), featuring exclusive tracks from three of the bands that performed with C93, psych drone combo Rameses III, psychedelic folk legend Simon Finn, and most excitingly, legendary seventies acid folk outfit, the mighty Comus!! The Comus track might be what gets folks most excited, and rightfully so, a recording of the group performing ‘Diana’ on the Melloboat, in Sweden, in 2008, their first show together after nearly 40 years!!! We tried to watch clips on YouTube, but the crowd was so amped, and howling and clapping and singing along, you could barely hear the band. Thankfully this recording is pristine, and the band sound incredible, even more woozy and carnivalesque and maniacal than they did back in the day, the playing practically perfect, the vocals incredible for the many decades that have passed, definitely makes us wish we had flown over.”

Andee, Aquarius Records, San Francisco. July 2010

“Pressed up in support of their performances at the recent 25th anniversary of Current 93 in London, modern drone outfit Rameses III gets sandwiched in between psych-folk deities of the early 1970s. Having had their careers revitalized in decades worth of intrigued rediscovery, Comus offers up a live version of ‘Diana’ taken from a Swedish music festival in 2008. Loss of the sickly green youthfulness that permeated the original does not dilute their sound and intent – age has made this one a little more regal but every bit as twisted. Simon Finn, a bent, primal folkie whose laser-eyebeam intense ‘Jerusalem’ (from an early 70s rarity called Pass the Distance) shook with an anxiety that busted itself right off the record. His more-recent turn here finds the artist revisiting the same simplicity found in his earlier work, his voice still holding up forty years later, a very personal and moving work that outpaces its brevity with Finn’s glowing, humane voice. Rameses III (ta) offer up one cleansing blast of minimal drone, guitars droning on in a symphony of shifting sands. 300 copies, purple vinyl, and you’ll forgive Finn’s first-time Photoshop user artwork.”
