Thanks to you all for London

I and all of C93 want to thank everyone who attended the two concerts in London; without you we are nothing. We also want to thank Comus, Simon Finn, Nurse With Wound, Rameses III and These New Puritans for appearing. We were absolutely astounded by all their sets.

Personally, I wish to thank all of C93: Andrew W.K., Matt Sweeney, Keith Wood, James Blackshaw, Stephen Emmel, William Breeze, Baby Dee, Michael Cashmore, Eliot Bates, John Contreras, Andrew Liles, Sarah Dietrich and Alex Neilson. To have Bill Fay appear with us was an experience that was so meaningful for us all: his music means so much to us. And thank you Sebastian Horsley for introducing us on both nights—I love you! My deepest gratitude to the lovely Simo Dalla Valle, Giulio Di Mauro and Davide Pepe for photographing and filming all the rehearsals and the shows. I love you all too.

There were too many friends there for me/us to thank them all by name, but I want to say what a pleasure it was to meet Eva and Michel Faber for the first time. And how lovely to see so many old friends too: Tod Wodicka, Charly Wilder, Coptologist Hugo Lundhaug, Steffi Thiel, Frank Maier, Steven Hartmann, John and Greg Scharpen, Ayşe Tuzlak, Paul Deighton, Miss Kat Cormie, Kathleen Pingleton, Katja Strunz, Uwe Henneken, Jessica Chappell, Nat Hynde, Yasmin Kerr, Lauren Barley, Lizzie Oswell, Daniela Corcio, Luca Valtorta, Valeria Rusconi, Giorgio Cerebro, Chiara Barzini, Melon Liles, Ossian Brown, Othon Mataragas, Gary Robertson, Rachel 2, Gabriel Toso; apologies to all those many friends whose names I have forgotten to mention.

Thank you Mark Logan and Lynn Jackson for coming all the way from Ontario to be with us.

Without the amazing support and backing of David Bianchi of Various Artists Management Ltd, and John O’Sullivan and all at Source Productions—Jess Chapman, Sophie Gollop, Tim Brandwood and Adam—these shows would never have happened; their organisation was incredibly complex and expensive. Bless you all for your enthusiasm. And thank you to all the technical crew at the Forum who were so efficient and kind.

Andrew Gilbert: The Statue of Broccoli

Between 4–7 May 2012, Andrew Gilbert, also known as Andrew Emperor of Africa, has his first US solo presentation at the NADA Art Fair, represented by the gallery Ten Haaf Projects (Amsterdam). Andrew has informed David that “The Emperor will be Present as will be The Holy Broccoli from India”. Pictured with this is his painting “The Statue of Broccoli”.

His work will be shown at Booth 10, Center 548, 548 West 22nd Street between 10th and 11th AveNUES, New York, NY. More information at http://newartdealers.org.

“Scottish artist Andrew Gilbert (1980) is an illustrator, painter, storyteller, opinionated military historian, visionary and realist all in one. Whatever his guise, however, one thing is certain: Andrew Gilbert is a creator of fictional universe, of strange and exotic incidents, where real events crop up in the various backgrounds and reveal hidden historical facts, no matter how illogically they all seem linked together. In his drawings and paintings, he expertly operates a time machine that lets him wander through history. Using tangible examples of historical events, he tracks different historical figures and examines their roles and shows who they really were. He shows what they meant for us: often orgies of violence and destruction. He reverses the splendour of military operations, lending them an effect contrary to the received wisdom and moves the misery of expansionism into the focus of attention. (Text by Zdenek Felix)”
